Welcome to Madarao Mountain Lodge

Madarao Mountain Lodge provides a family-friendly ski lodge located metres away from the slopes at Madarao Mountain Resort. You can easily access the extensive terrain of both Madarao Mountain Resort and Tangram Ski Circus from our front door.  We are an easy ski down to the lifts and one of the best places in Madarao if you want to wake up on the slopes for first tracks.

The lodge has 11 rooms. There are 3 western-style double rooms with queen sized beds. There are 2 western-style twin rooms with two single beds, 3 western-style triple rooms and one western-style family room that sleeps 4 people. We have two Japanese family rooms with tatami mats and futons, one which has an en suite bathroom. Rates are based on rooms and not per person, as in many Japanese ryokans, which is cost effective particularly for families on a budget.

Room rates are all inclusive of tax and service charges. Guests are required to pay 50% of tariff at time of booking and the rest on arrival in Madarao. Cancellations can be made if more than 30 days prior to arrival. Credit card facilities are available.

Our rooms are quite large by Japanese standards. Our twins are the smallest at 9 square metres, the triples and doubles are 11, Japanese family rooms 13 and Western 14. They all have some storage and hanging space. The three family rooms all have Apple TV. 

The Japanese rooms are on tatami mats with futons and the western have single beds. Our doubles are just two singles put together and can be made into twins again depending on guest demand.

There is a ski room and luggage storage is available for guests who want ski before check in or after check out. All rooms are non-smoking.

The shower rooms are separate for men and women. They have three separate shower stalls in each so they are private. There is also one private shared bathroom that has been newly installed in 2020.

There are no common Japanese-style baths, but two onsens are within walking distance from the lodge at Monaile and the Madarao Kogen Hotel. There is also a great onsen at Madarao no yu, about three kilometres away. We can drive guests to this onsen as well, where possible.

Shampoo, conditioner, soap and towels are all provided.

We have a common recreation room with couch, TV , Apple TV, Playstation and DVD player. There is also complementary self service tea, coffee and hot water, as well as a microwave oven and bar fridge.

Breakfast is varied every day but is western-style, including eggs, toast, cereal, miso soup and salad. There is self service coffee and tea. There is an espresso coffee machine and drink vending machine that guests will have to pay for if they want juice, hot chocolate or other beverages.

At dinner we have a full cafe restaurant that is open from 3pm till 8pm. Mayuko is a qualified Japanese chef who provides great food and specialises in sushi, sashimi and tempura. Western meals are also available. There is also a fully stocked bar and we specialise in craft beer and local sake and shochu.

Pick ups from Iiyama station are available on request. We also book transport such as airport transfers with the Chuo taxis and can organise the takkyubin  courier service from our property, if people need heavy luggage sent to the airport.

We sell lift passes at a discount. Please ask for discount ski tickets on arrival.

We are child and family friendly and there is a cot and a baby seat available for no extra charge.
